We are going to do it.
Until the New Year, or longer if we are into it by then, my kids and I are going to no longer watch TV. I am testing to see if the atmosphere of the home changes - less arguing, fighting, trance-like drooling (not really, but still). I am canceling cable and internet until Jan.1, 2009 (kind of like a backwards resolution). The boys can still play the occassional video game and we will watch a DVD every now and then, but no mindless TV shows.
This is going to be a challenge for the entire family, as I am certainly as addicted to certain shows as they are, but anyone like s good challenge. I think we will miss Survivor the most, as that has been a long-standing tradition in our house on Thursday evenings, but there will always be another season. I, of course will miss the internet more than I can explain, reading blogs and emails, having information at my fingertips, but hey, 10 years ago, I barely knew what it was and certainly was fine then.
If any of you are game - - jump on board with us!
I will be making weekly visits to the library for emails due to my business, so if you decide to take the challenge with us, send me an email and we can compare notes throughout!
Adios!

Sounds like a good plan... we try to limit tv time severely here, too, for the boys. I think too much tv means too much bad behavior as well.
Cable AND internet? Dude.
I am very anxious to see how it goes but I don't think I have the will power to jump on board with you. How will you keep up with the election? And Survivor? You couldn't wait until the season is over? Oh, Mama, I'm traumatized for you. :)
Ohmygosh. But I'm proud of you, nonetheless! GO girl!
wow. that's awesome. will love to hear a report of how it went come January.... or longer.
Good for you. No, I won't be joining you. Though I do think it's a wonderful idea.
I do hope you'll use the library internet to report how it's going now and then!
WHat an awesome thing you are doing. I so wish you could blog once a week about the changes you see but that would defeat the point wouldn't it? :)
It's a very brave step and I can understand the necessity of it. I have threated to pull out the TV cable more than once, I couldn't live without internet, though.
I wish you all the luck and hopefully it will work out the way it is supposed to be. Don't forget, thought, that the kids might resource to get their share of TV and internet at their mate's place ...
Desertpea, I did not think of that....
Holy Moley. That's a brave move sis, exspecially with a mess a youngins' to keep entertained. You're definitely on to something though. TV casts an addictive spell of laziness and mind mush and I'll be anxious to see how the drama unfolds as you guys "come down." No internet though? Now that's just crazy talk.
